Official MTA Music Under New York site
MUNY (Music Under New York) is a program developed by the MTA in New York and carefully run and organized by 2 incredible people Gina and Tim. I auditioned for the program in May of 1999 and was granted the opportunity to perform throughout New York City's amazing subway and train system. Every two weeks I select from various locations where I would like to perform.
My favorite spots have been the newly renovated Grand Central
Station (lower level), Times Square (near the shuttle & N/R
lines), and Union Square (at 14th and University).
Every time I stand in front of that orange MUNY banner to sing, I
experience the joy of performing. I love to watch people, and from
my point of view, an amazing film is created before my eyes.
To many people, a street performer is a struggling artist, for me
it's a moment void of struggling. I bask in the void of promoters
rules, of complicated and heavy equipment, of the music industrys
opinion, and a singer songwriters freedom to do what I love to
do.
